Neodymium Block Magnets

What is Neodymium block magnets

Neodymium block magnets are one of the popular shapes in the market.

It is widely used in a range of consumer goods and industrial devices. People can find them in  lots of prodcutions.

Features

Generally speaking,  neodymium block magnets have a larger surface area, compared to other shapes. And this feature makes them more magnetic and possible to achieve better results.

Meanwhile, the block shapes usually have strong mechanical strength. It means they are less likely to crack or break. Therefore, you can easily stack them or attach them to other surfaces. They are versatile in many applications.

Osenc is a custom neodymium magnet supplier, and we can offer many different block shapes by varying the length, width, and height of the blocks. The choices will depend on your specific application and the specific performance that you expect.

Dimensional identifications

As a common practice, we use some standard methods to identify the dimensions of magnets.

Below is the dimensional identification for ring neodymium magnets. You can follow the ways below for buying your magnets, either from Osenc or another supplier. It will be helpful for avoiding misunderstandings between the two sides.

Meanwhile, we use the metric units of measurement for dimensions by default, and the imperial units of measurement are for easy understanding only. Take the metric units for confirmation if you find there are minor differences.

The dimension for neodymium block magnets: Length x Width x Height

Usually, the dimension begins with an uppercase letter F.

If neodymium block magnets have a dimension of F8 × 4 × 2 mm, that means its length is 8 mm, the width is 4 mm, and the height is 2 mm.

Block magnets: Length x Width x Height (For example, 10 x 10 x 10 mm)

Block magnets with a hole: Length x Width x Height x Hole diameter (For example, 10 x 10 x 10 x D5 mm)

Block magnet with a countersunk hole: Length x Width x Height x Major hole diameter (For example, 10 x 10 x 10 x M5 mm)

By default, the last number is the magnetization direction of this magnet.

Therefore, the magnetization direction is the direction of 2 mm, which is the thickness direction for magnetization.

Meanwhile, N and S are the two bigger surfaces, namely the 8 × 4mm surface.

One side is the N pole, and the other side is the S pole.

Available dimensions

1). Available sizes for neodymium block magnets

Length: 1 – 200mm (1/16 – 7 7/8 inches)

Width: 0.5 – 100mm (1/64 – 3 15/16 inches)

Height: 0.3 – 120mm (1/64 – 4 ¾ inches)

2). The largest neodymium block magnets that Osenc can offer

Rectangle: Length 200 × width 80 × height 50mm (7 7/8 x 3 1/8 x 1 15/16 inches)

Square: Length 100 × width 100 × height 60mm (3 15/16 x 3 15/16 x 2 3/8 inches)

The longest magnetization direction: 200mm (7 7/8 inches)

Note:

If the size of one direction is the largest, then the size of other directions should be smaller.

If the sizes of two directions are larger, the thickness should not be too small.

3). The smallest size of block magnets

Length 1 × width 1 × height 0.3mm (1/16 x 1/16 x 1/64 inches)

Grades of Neodymium block magnets

Neodymium magnets are graded based on the strength of their magnetic field. The grade of a neodymium magnet is indicated by a number. A bigger number indicates a stronger magnetic field.

Neodymium magnets have different grades, ranging from N35 to N55, and they also have high-temperature grades for special applications, like H, M, SH, EH, and AH.

You can refer to our introduction to neodymium magnet grades. It will be helpful for you to determine which grade is the most appropriate for you.

Coatings

Neodymium magnets are sensitive to the working environment. The humidity and even other corrosive elements can cause them to corrode quickly.

To improve the durability of neodymium magnets, we will need to apply a layer or even multiple layers of coatings on their surfaces. Meanwhile, this will also make the magnets more resistant to scratches and other types of damage.

Osenc can offer custom neodymium magnets with several different types of coatings. They include nickel, zinc, epoxy, etc. Each of them has its own unique properties and benefits.

Please refer to this page to pick the most appropriate coating for your magnets.

Magnetization directions

As a common practice, the size identification for block magnets: Length x Width x Height.

The last digit of this size identification is the magnetization surface.

For example, for a magnet of F20 x 15 x10 mm, the magnetization direction of this magnet is 10 mm surface.

Optional Variants

1). Neodymium magnet bars

Sometimes you may need block-shaped neodymium magnets with a very long edge. Usually, we call this a bar shape. It has many different applications in various products, and requires some different manufacturing techniques.

2). Countersunk neodymium magnets

We can make one hole or more holes on a single piece of neodymium block magnets. So, you can insert a screw for fastening or positioning. Such a design is ideal for applications like hanging signs, tools, posters, etc. And particularly for cabinets, kitchens, booths, stores, etc.

3). Micro neodymium magnet tubes

Osenc is also able to offer micro magnets with tiny dimensions – usually below 2 mm, have a higher precision of +/- 0.005 mm, and with a special Parylene coating, commonly for medical applications.
