Material Specification

N52 Neodymium Magnet Material Specifications

N52 is selected when a design needs high magnetic energy within limited magnet volume. The table below is an engineering reference for N52 material selection, not a substitute for the material certificate used on a production order. Where a magnetic material property is an acceptance item, OSENC locks it to the approved material specification for that order.

Property N52 Engineering Reference How OSENC Uses It
Remanence, Br1.42–1.46 TUsed as a material-level reference when evaluating N52 for the magnetic circuit.
Intrinsic coercivity, HcJControlled by the approved N52 material specification for the orderReviewed when operating temperature or opposing demagnetizing fields affect grade selection; the accepted value must come from the production material specification.
Coercivity, HcBControlled by the approved N52 material specification for the orderConsidered together with the demagnetization curve and working point; acceptance is tied to the production material specification.
Maximum energy product, (BH)max382–414 kJ/m³ (48–52 MGOe)Supports designs that need high magnetic energy from a compact magnet volume.
Operating temperatureNot assigned from the “N52” label aloneContinuous temperature, peak temperature, geometry, working point and the approved material datasheet are reviewed before the final grade is locked.

Material-control rule: Br and (BH)max are shown here as N52 engineering references. HcB, HcJ and temperature capability must be taken from the approved production material specification rather than assumed from the grade name. When any material property is an acceptance item, include it in the RFQ so it can be locked to the production order.

Magnetic Strength

How Strong Are N52 Neodymium Magnets?

N52 describes material energy density, not a fixed Gauss or pull-force number. For the same magnet geometry and magnetic circuit, N52 can provide higher magnetic output than a lower-energy NdFeB grade. Finished performance still depends on magnet dimensions, magnetization direction, air gap, contact area, steel thickness, return path and the measurement method.

N52 Grade

Defines a high-energy NdFeB material class. It is useful when the design needs more magnetic energy within limited magnet volume.

Surface Gauss

Changes with magnet geometry and probe position. A grade number alone cannot be converted into one universal surface-Gauss value.

Pull Force

Must be tied to a defined steel target, contact or air-gap condition, pull direction and fixture. Two N52 magnets can have very different pull force.

Engineering rule: specify the finished magnetic target and its test condition. OSENC can then evaluate whether N52 creates useful output or whether geometry and the magnetic circuit should be changed first.
Custom Manufacturing

Custom N52 Magnet Manufacturing Options

OSENC manufactures custom N52 neodymium magnets around the finished assembly requirement rather than treating the grade number as a complete specification. Geometry, magnetization, coating, operating condition and critical magnetic output are reviewed together before quotation.

Production Control

How OSENC Controls Custom N52 Magnet Production

N52 performance depends on more than the material grade. OSENC controls the finished magnet around the drawing, magnetization, coating and agreed magnetic acceptance conditions so the part is defined for the actual assembly rather than by grade name alone.

RequirementOSENC Production Control
Material requirementThe N52 requirement is linked to the approved material specification used for the order.
Finished dimensionsNominal dimensions and critical tolerances are controlled by the approved finished-part drawing.
MagnetizationDirection or pole layout is defined before production so the finished magnet matches the assembly requirement.
Surface flux densityCritical flux requirements are linked to a defined measurement position and finished geometry when specified.
Pull forceCritical pull requirements are defined with the relevant fixture, steel condition, pull direction and gap or contact condition.
CoatingSurface protection is selected around corrosion exposure, assembly method and finished dimensional interfaces.
Final acceptanceThe approved drawing and agreed inspection or magnetic acceptance criteria become the production basis.
Gauss and pull force are not interchangeable. Surface flux density does not by itself define finished pull force because geometry, air gap, contact area and the steel magnetic circuit also affect the result.
Quick Engineering Answer

N52 Magnet Quick Engineering Answers

Use these answers to decide whether the grade number is actually solving the assembly requirement.

Buyer QuestionShort AnswerEngineering Meaning
Is N52 always stronger? No.For the same geometry and circuit, higher energy density can increase output, but finished force still depends on the complete magnetic circuit.
Does N52 mean a fixed Gauss value? No.Surface flux density changes with geometry, magnetization and measurement position.
Does N52 mean a fixed pull force? No.Pull force needs a defined steel target, contact or gap condition, pull direction and fixture.
Is N52 always the best grade?No.N42, N45 or N48 can be the better engineering choice when space permits and the assembly target can be met at lower material cost.
Can N52 be selected by temperature alone? No.Coercivity, geometry, working point and the approved material specification determine the available thermal margin.
Grade Selection

N52 vs N42, N45 and N48: When Does the Higher Grade Matter?

N52 is most useful when higher magnetic energy density solves a real space or performance constraint. Compared with N42, N45 or N48, the higher grade can create useful output when magnet volume is restricted, but it is not automatically the best choice when the same finished requirement can be reached by geometry or magnetic-circuit changes.

Design ConditionOSENC N52 Decision
Limited magnet volumePrefer N52 when the circuit needs higher magnetic energy within the available space.
Maximum energy per unit volume mattersPrefer N52 when the working point allows the higher-energy grade to create a useful output advantage.
Larger magnet volume is acceptableCompare N42, N45 or N48 against the same finished performance target before locking N52.
Higher operating temperatureReview the working point and a higher-coercivity grade direction before assuming standard N52 is the correct choice.
Cost dominates the designOptimize magnet geometry and the steel return path before paying for energy density the assembly does not use.
Large air gap or weak steel return pathImprove the magnetic circuit first; increasing grade alone may not recover the required finished performance.

Application Reliability

N52 Neodymium Magnet Temperature, Corrosion & Assembly Limits

Sintered NdFeB is brittle and corrosion-sensitive compared with ordinary structural metals. N52 energy density, coercivity, magnetic working point and surface protection therefore need to be treated as separate design decisions.

OSENC does not assign a universal maximum operating temperature from the “N52” label alone. We review continuous temperature, peak temperature, magnet geometry, working point, corrosion exposure, assembly method and impact risk against the approved material specification. If the application requires more coercivity or thermal margin, the grade direction or magnetic circuit is changed instead of forcing standard N52 into the design.

For air shipment, packaged magnetic field is treated as a shipment-configuration requirement. Packaging and shielding are reviewed for the actual shipment rather than inferred from coating or magnet size.

OEM Supply

Why OEM Buyers Source Custom N52 Magnets From OSENC

The useful question is not whether a supplier can quote “N52.” It is whether the finished magnet is controlled around the assembly, drawing and acceptance condition. OSENC connects material specification, finished dimensions, magnetization, coating and agreed magnetic checks from RFQ through the production specification.

Drawing-Controlled Manufacturing

Finished dimensions, critical interfaces and magnetization are built around the approved part drawing instead of a generic stock-magnet description.

Magnetic Requirements With Test Conditions

When flux, pull force or torque matters, the target is linked to a defined measurement position, fixture or operating geometry rather than a standalone number.

Application-Based Engineering Review

Grade, geometry, coating and the magnetic circuit are reviewed together so N52 is used where it creates actual design value.

N52 Neodymium Magnet FAQ

Is N52 the strongest neodymium grade OSENC offers?

No. N52 is a high-energy grade, and OSENC selects it when its energy density fits the magnetic circuit and operating conditions. A higher grade number is not automatically the better engineering choice for every assembly.

Does N52 always produce more pull force than N42 or N45?

No single grade number defines finished pull force. Higher-energy material can increase output in the same magnetic circuit, but pull force also depends on magnet dimensions, air gap, contact area, steel thickness, return path and the test method.

Can standard N52 neodymium magnets be selected by an 80°C requirement alone?

No. OSENC does not assign a finished temperature limit from the N52 label alone. Continuous temperature, peak temperature, coercivity, magnet geometry, working point and the approved material specification must be reviewed together before the grade is locked.

Which coating should I specify for a custom N52 magnet?

Coating selection depends on corrosion exposure, assembly process, coating-damage risk and dimensional interfaces. Ni-Cu-Ni, zinc, epoxy and project-specific coating routes can be reviewed with the finished-part drawing.

Can OSENC manufacture custom N52 neodymium magnets to drawing?

Yes. OSENC manufactures N52 magnets in disc, block, ring, cylinder and drawing-specific geometries. Finished dimensions, critical interfaces, coating and magnetization direction are reviewed together before quotation.

How strong are N52 neodymium magnets?

N52 is a high-energy NdFeB grade, but it does not define one universal pull-force or Gauss value. Finished strength depends on magnet dimensions, magnetization, air gap, contact area, steel return path and the test condition.

Does N52 mean a fixed surface Gauss value?

No. Surface Gauss changes with magnet geometry, pole orientation and measurement position. If surface flux density is a purchasing requirement, define the finished geometry and the measurement position in the RFQ.

When should I choose N52 instead of N42, N45 or N48?

Choose N52 when higher magnetic energy density creates useful output within a restricted magnet volume. If space is available, OSENC can compare lower grades against the same finished magnetic target before the grade is locked.

How do I request a custom N52 neodymium magnet quote?

Send the drawing, finished dimensions, magnetization, coating, operating temperature, application, quantity and any critical magnetic-performance target. When pull force, flux or torque is an acceptance item, include the test condition or working geometry.
